Short curly hair?

I have EXTREMELY curly hair. I used to straighten it, but my stylist had to use so many chemicals to get it to any semblance of straight, it was really brittle and dry. I wish I never straightened. Now my hair is about shoulder length, and I want to cut it short. I really want a haircut that makes a statement, but I do NOT want an afro! My hair is brown with some blond highlights, but I plan on dying it a darker brown, because black is overrated. Any ideas?

Do it, do it, do it!! I cut off my shoulder length hair a year ago and I've never regretted it. I have it super-short...kinda like Halle Berry used to wear her hair. Maybe just an inch long in the longest place. My hair is very wavy/curly and all I have to do is wash and go. It's the BEST thing I've ever done with my hair. After spending my entire life fighting the curls, it's great to just go with them! Good luck!

Don't worry about it looking like an afro. I have really curly hair too, and I just got it chopped and I love mine! I got choppy layers that start longer in the front then get shorter in the back.
